OPEN SHELVING
The kitchen in a Napa Valley ranch has open shelves instead of upper cupboards for an airy feel. The ledges and countertops are galvanized metal, and the cabinetry is made of old fencing. Vintage truck springs, used as stools, were found at Artefact Design & Salvage. Designer and owner Ken Fulk seen the vintage industrial pendant lights at the Paris flea market.
Small Wonder
A top Realtor in your community, this homeowner, needed a little space that was unique to flaunt to her clients. That is just what she got with the dark shoji-style cupboards and custom round butcher block table on casters. The cooking range is flanked by floating shelves, which help to open up the tiny kitchen.
Space-Economy Sense
The owners of this American bungalow wanted to make their little kitchen more exotic. Dark cupboards with brown-and-black tiger striping makes for a sleek, modern look, while the pale solid-surface backsplash creates a bold contrast. The look makes the most of very little countertop space using a wenge butcher block that slides over the sink. A dining table on casters allows an eight-seater when not in use to slip below the island.
SUBWAY TILE
To falsify a bright farmhouse kitchen in a Manhattan apartment, the cabinets were painted Benjamin Moore's White Dove by Celerie Kemble. The white-tiled walls, along with a milk-glass and brass hardware chandelier, create the chimera of extra sun.
ROLLING LADDER
Adding extra storage is a terrific idea, when you can reach, that's. Katie Ridder installed a rolling ladder (just such as the library!) in this superb kitchen to reach ceiling-height cabinets.
Space- Glossy and Bright
Though her old house is old—as well as miniature—and conventional, this homeowner requested a contemporary cooking space. The clean design makes the best backdrop for collectibles. Mother-of-pearl granite countertops and frosted-glass tile contrast with dark cupboards, while a custom built, space-saving table on casters nests to the rear of the island when not in use.

COPPER SHELVING
Working with only 72 square feet, Austin designer Kim Lewis selected for in-plain-sight storage. The copper-conduit shelving has hooks for hanging mugs, keeping the counter mess -free. With no dishwasher, a farmhouse sink can accommodate dirty pots and pans.
BLACK CABINETRY
In a Manhattan apartment, the existing kitchen cabinets were painted Benjamin Moore Air in Black. "I wanted it to look less boring and more like an intelligent butler's pantry," designer Lilly Bunn says. The Roman shade is in Holland & Sherry's Belfour linen.
ELECTRIC COOKTOP
This tiny New York kitchen has a place for everything, says designer Stephanie Stokes. "After design a great number of kitchens for other people, I understood exactly what I desired and what I desired," she says. An electric cooktop that doubles as countertop and simple cabinetry help provide the chimera of grandeur, a mirrored backsplash.
